About This Item

London; Glasgow: T.J. Wooler; W.M. Borthwick and Co, 1817. Hardcover. Two works bound together in cloth-covered boards for a law library; the first work is 143p. (of which the final page has a corner replaced with plain card, not affecting the text), the second is 155p. Library spine labels chipped, front free endpaper removed; the textblock has been neatly trimmed at the edges, not impinging on the text. Two works related to the trial of the editor of the satirical journal Black Dwarf, charged with seditious libel against Lord Liverpool's government. Wooler successfully used the defense that although he had published the criticisms, he had not personally written them, and was therefore not guilty.
