About This Item

State College, PA: Bald Eagle Press, 1952. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, inscribed and signed on the front end page as follows: "For Mr. Jim Lucas - Complements of [You Chan Yang signature], Korean Ambassador, Sept. 29, 1952.". Light brown cloth boards show spotting and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The rear board has a spot along the edge, about 2 inches from the right, where the bump has caused the cloth to split. The rear board also has a large stain the lower half which doesn't really show up in the photo but you can easily see it when you hold the book at an angle to the light. The interior is in much better shape, binding is good with no hinge issues and text pages are tight. There are about a dozen pages with underlining, which is done mostly in pencil. It is unknown if this was done by the ambassador or Mr. Lucas, or by both, as it appears markings are done at different time. There is also a line that was crossed out on page 19. The talking point starts out by stating "the soldiers in Korea have written epics of heroism equal to any others in our history. But just why they did it they never quite have understood.". That last sentence that begins with "But" has been crossed out with a heavy pencil. There is only one page that was found to have something underlined in pen, this was on page 16 "When is a war not a war? And if it isn't, how should it be regarded?". Pages are toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and spotting. There is also a page that have a corner fold that was straightened out, but the crease is still present. The low condition grade is only because of the exterior appearance issues.

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
