About This Item
Verona: Tipografia Gambaretti, 1805. Only edition. Fine. Quarto (235mm); 40 pages. Title within typographical oval frame. Bound in Remondini-made black and silver woodblock-printed decorated paper over stiff pasteboard (see "Remondini: un editore del settecento," p. 122, #37, for an example in black and red). Red speckled edges.
A collection of occasional verse commemorating the untimely death of a young member of the Marioni family, Carlo, dead at age 20. (Carlo is entombed in the Marioni palazzo at Canareggio near Verona whose walls were decorated by Giandomenico Tiepolo when Carlo was a child.) The opening poem in the collection is by the great proto-Romantic Ippolito Pindemonte, addressed to Carlo's mother (as are most of the other verses in the collection). Other contributions are by notable Veronesi such as Mario and Leonardo Miniscalchi. The book is bound in one of the signature Remondini papers of the late 18th century.

About Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio
Rodger Friedman Rare Book Studio owes its name and its inspiration to the traditional Italian studio bibliografico. These small antiquarian bookshops, typically run by individuals who combine deep scholarship with a love of the printed object, remind us that underlying the words "study" and "studio" is the Latin term for zeal and devotion, studium. Since 1993, my goal has been to match discerning collectors with extraordinary books and manuscripts.
