About This Item
A New Franchise" handbill. Published by The Women's Local Government Society. February, 1918.The Women's Local Government Society that advocated for women's participation in local government. At the time that this description is being written, just one copy is recorded in American institutions. OCLC search results are at best an estimate and can vary over time. Two punch holes along left edge. Horizontal fold crease, tears on upper right edge and upper left edges. This handbill outlines the gains made through the "Representation of the People" Act of 1918, in which 8.5 million British women gained the vote. While this act did not grant the vote to all women, it opened the door for women to have more official representation until universal suffrage was achieved in 1928. No copies of this handbill are in U.S. collections according to OCLC Worldcat. An extremely rare document that outlines an important development in British women's suffrage. Good condition.
