About This Item
This is Bellow's second novel, first printing of the British edition. Likely to have been a short run printing since Bellow was not well known then, and post WWII austerity resulted in tight publishers budgets. It is therefore scarce in collectable condition. This copy, the best we have handled, sports the original dust jacket with no obvious tears, sunning, or marks. The only flaws are 1) a fold tear at the front jacket flap; 2) small holes in the edge of the rear jacket fold. Will happily provide photos are these flaws. Both flaws are only noticeable on close examination. The book itself is exceptionally clean, tight and square. The top edge is slightly dusty and half title page has a few faint fox spots. Overall, nr fine in a nr fine jacket. For a book issued in 1948 this is rare indeed.
