About This Item
This is an antique biography of VICTOR HUGO by a "Witness of His Life," Madame Hugo (Adele Foucher, Victor's wife). 1864; Carleton; New York. Double column text.
From the "Note" at the beginning of the book:
"The readers of Les Miserables will be astonished to find what a flood of light is thrown upon that masterwork by this charming life-history of its great author. Its wonderful descriptions cease to be fictions and become actual life. Marius is but a free variation of Victor Hugo himself. Circumstances are considerably changed, yet the man and his formation are substantially the same. The fairy spot which saw the loves of Cosette and Marius, is the actual scene of the child courtship between the subject and the author of this biography."
Condition:
Tanning and soiling to the covers and spine; sharp corners; fraying at the top of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. The inside of the book is in very good condition - clean pages with only some occasional light foxing; no writing, stains or tears found.
