Hardback octavo, no jacket, good condition, quarter-leather & marbled boards (covers notably scuffed), marbled endpapers & edges, raised bands spine (gilt lettering), frontispiece fold-out colour map, tables (one fold-out, small tear base), pages lightly toned, corners leather cover rubbed, minor pencil annotation, small errata slip bound in, two bookplates. Heavy, and extra postage may be requested to destinations outside Australia. 390 + 96 + 8 pp. New (best) edition. Title continues: "With an Appendix, containing the Reports of the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce for the Last Two Years upon the Condition and Progress of the Colony." A history of the new colony of Victoria. An expansion of his earlier book written in 1848 when the Port Phillip District was part of New South Wales. The book covers the gold mines, squatting, climate, Aborigines, politics and government. (Originally published in 1848 as "Australia Felix". One of the two bookplate is of Dame Mabel Brookes, socialite, hospital administrator and charity leader.).
