About This Item
(London, 1884.) 4to. 87-119 pp.+ 4 hand-coloured lith. plates. Modern grey cloth (V. R. Stoakley, Cambridge). From the library of Nils Fries, with his book plate. From volume 2, issue 6, january 1884. Harry Marshall Ward (1854-1906) was a British botanist and one of the first to study physiological plant pathology. He was from 1880 to 1882 working in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), employed by the British government, trying to stop the rust in the coffee plantations. ”...the crown of all Ward's Ceylon work was the splendid memoir on a Tropical Epiphyllous Lichen which was published by the Linnean Society in 1883. In this he, I think, cleared up much that was obscure in the Mycoidea parasitica described by D. D. Cunningham” (Sir William Thiselton-Dyer).
