The book was explanded from the Mellon Lectures delivered in Spring 1985 at the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC. Illustrated throughout with b&w photos and diagrams. Topics include the ancient Roman villa, Medici villas and those of Palladio, landscape gardens, Thomas Jefferson, and 19th and 20th century American villas. Imperial 8vo (8" x 10-1/2"), gray cloth with gilt lettering on spine, moss green end papers, minimal wear, two dark smudges on or near spine, faint dust soil to top edge. DJ has very slight wear along top. Pages unmarked. Heavy book, may incur shipping surcharge depending on destination.
