Petersburg, VA: "Daily Index" Office, 1866. Second end enlarged edition., 1866. 8vo. 216 pp. Original brown pebbled cloth. INSCRIBED by the author on the front free endpaper and dated Richmond, March 15th 1867. Howes K27; Crandall 2367 for the first edition. This work was based upon a diary kept by the author following his capture at the battle near Petersburg during his five months captivity "in the best two of the Federal pens," Point Lookout and Elmira. The first edition was the last or next to last Confederate publication and is recognized as an outstanding wartime account. Keiley was a journalist and later a lawyer, a noted political campaigner and judge of the International Court at Cairo. 1/2" chips at the spinal extremities, cloth cracked along the spine, and some edge wear, else good. Scarce.. Inscribed by Author(s). 2nd Edition. Hardcover. Good.
