A collection of Hakluyt's narratives of voyages to Virginia in the 16th and early 17th centuries which were the first impresions that English readers had of North America. Hakluyt was a vigorous propagandist for English settlement in eastern North America and though the colonies failed the record which Hakluyt published played an important role in reviving English enterprise in the area in the early part of the 1600s and was used as a manual by the settlers of the enduring colony of Virginia established in 1607..
