Red and white glossy jacket with illustration of Churchill on front, not price-clipped, slight wear to spine head and heel. Things were not going well for Britain and the Allies in World War II, 1942 - Singapore fell to the Japanese, two British navy ships were sunk, Rommel overran Tobruk in North Africa. Churchill's opponents in parliament were quick to capitalize on these defeats and attributed these military disasters to Churchill's lack of judgment. A vote of censure was put before the House. Malcolm Thomson describes these events with clarity. One of his greatest achievement lies in his depiction of important men, in the midst of war's catastrophes, being moved by their annoyances, jealousies, flattery, pique, pride, indigestion, fatigue, family problems. "Vote of Censure" is am eyewitness recollection of that reality: the intricate combinations of personal and political intrigue that shook Churchill's wartime leadership. The world can be thankful they failed. 253 pages with Notes, Bibliography and Index. 9.75 x 6.5 inches. 1968, Stein and Day Publishers, New York
