Thick 8vo.,756pp. Beautifully bound in 3/4 maroon leather. 5 steel engraved portraits, 10 lithographed maps, mostly folding, 298 woodcut illus. in text. Square, tight and clean throughout with very light rubbing and wear to edges and hinges. With a historical review of previous journeys along the north coast of the old world. Translated by Alexander Leslie. The voyage was made for the purpose of proving the Northeast Passage to be navigable by ship, with the return home through the Bering Straits. A very handsome, collectable copy.
