Comic novel about "a poor shnook to whom everything happens -- a World War II veteran who, by horrible error, is recalled during the Korean War and finds himself stranded on a lonely island radar post, halfway between Korea and the Japanese mainland, with the four hundred men of an Air Force radar unit whose morale is at rock bottom." Adapted into the 1960 movie of the same name, starring Ernie Kovacs, Dick Shawn, and Don Knotts, produced and directed by Mervyn LeRoy. .
