Bound in brown cloth with gilt lettering on spine and blindstamped ornament on both covers. Boards show light bowing to covers, boards exposed at corners, bumping to corners, head edge of spine chipped off, fraying to spine edges, and discoloration to rear cover. Textblock has worming to fore edge including large worm hole from page 75 to page 273 that does not affect text, foxing to edges, and damp staining to final three pages. Map after page 306. Synopsis
Walden (first published as Walden; or, Life in the Woods) by Henry David Thoreau is an American classic. The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, and manual for self reliance. Published in 1854, it details Thoreau's sojourn in a cabin near Walden Pond, amidst woodland owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson, near Concord, Massachusetts.
