About This Item

Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1961. Novel of two white children, survivors of an airplane crash in the Australian bush, who are rescued by an aboriginal youth, and cultural confusions that arise - with tragic results; basis of the acclaimed 1971 Nicolas Roeg film. The author was born and raised in Australia, and worked in the interior desert region depicted in the novel. Appears to be the first American edition, dated 1961 on the title page - though First Edition is not stated, as was Doubleday's normal practice: they did not always do this on books published earlier elswhere, which this was two years previous, as The Children. Slim hardcover in jacket, as pictured. Light wear to book, minor stain on free endsheet; jacket rubbed & lightly chipped with some foxing, tiny tears & creasing to lower front panel. Text clean; [126] pages, line drawings.. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. Illus. by Noela Young. Small Octavo.
