An important work on Whitman, penned in 1895 but not published for over three-quarters of a century, Smuts, later Field Marshall and Prime Minister of South Africa was a student at Cambridge when he became enthralled with Whitman. A well researched and seminal study, in not way diminished by future Whitman studies. No previous ownership marks. A clean, sound, tight and internally unmarked copy. Near fine in a very good dust-jacket. .
