About This Item
Typed letter signed by the American author best known for his historical novel, Drums Along the Mohawk (1936.) Dated November 6, 1960, on his letterhead from Concord, Mass. 9.75 x 8 inches. VG with mailing folds, some creasing. A lighthearted letter. Edmonds acknowledges receipt of an article about a canal boat trip. He regrets being unable to make the trip and writes, "I thought the article lively and good, though I deplore your generous overstatements about ROME HAUL!" [The reference is to his popular first book from 1929, a novel set along the Erie Canal in the 1850s.] The recipient was New Jersey librarian Margery Closely Quigley (1886-1956.) She wrote children's books with fellow librarian Mary E. Clark under the joint pseudonym Margery Clark. Their work included The Poppy Seed Cakes (1924.)
