Self-published in Manchester, NH, in 1953, 1st edition. Signed by the author. A biography of Walter Kittredge (1834-1905), a self-taught musician from New Hampshire who wrote and performed more than 500 songs and ballads. Many dealt with the Civil War, including When They Come Marching Home; The War Will Be Over Soon; and his most famous tune, Tenting on the Old Camp Ground, which was sung by both Union and Confederate soldiers. 124 pp., with lyrics to some songs. Five plates with 10 b&w photographs, including a frontispiece portrait of Kittredge. 8vo clothbound hardcover. VG with some fading and browning, slight bow to the front cover. Limited, light foxing, but text and illustrations generally clean. No dust jacket, but possibly not issued with one. A solid copy overall. Uncommon with the author's signature.
