A NOTE PRIOR TO TITLE PAGE STATES THAT THE DIARY WAS PRINTED IN CAIRO BY A GREEK WHO HAD NO ENGLISH, AND BECAUSE OF THIS MISTAKES HAD CREPT IN. THE BATTERY SPENT THE WAR IN FRANCE,THEIR EXPLOITS DETAILED IN THIS ACCOUNT, BUT WERE POSTED TO INDIA IN 1920. THIS EXPLAINS WHY THE BOOK WAS PRINTED IN CAIRO : THEY WOULD HAVE STOPPED OFF THERE, ON THE WAY OUT AND THE WAY BACK. THE DIARY OF THEIR WAR IN FRANCE (1914-18) WAS KEPT BY A SUCCESSION OF OFFICERS NAMED IN THIS BOOK AND BEGUN IN 1914, BY MAJOR G. GILLSON, R.H.A. THE OWNER OF THIS BOOK WAS A/T.
