About This Item

The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley, the text specially prepared by Kathleen Lines (Victor Gollancz Ltd, first published 1961).

The Charles Kingsley children's classic 'The Water-Babies' was originally published in 1863 by Macmillan, this edition with illustrations by Harold Jones (1904-92)* being published by Gollancz in 1961.

Hardback in dustwrapper. Illustration in gilt to front board. pp 222, [2] blank, including b/w illustrations, illustrated endpapers. Size: 8.75 x 6.25 inches approx. (220mm x 157mm).

Light wear and rubbing to dustwrapper, mainly to extremities; a short tear and creasing to top edge of rear panel; a little sunned/faded to spine; age-toning to flap folds and top edge; some blotchiness/tidemarks to spine though mostly only visible to verso. Covers clean and bright; spine ends a touch bruised, square corners to boards. A previous owner's inscription in ink to half-title page; edges of page-block toned and spotted but pages generally very clean throughout.

Overall, light wear but otherwise a nicely preserved copy – quite lovely.
