About This Item
London: William Heinemann Ltd, 1925. Cloth. Very Good. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, upper board blocked in black. Bottom edge untrimmed. Lean to spine, spine ends and bottom corners gently bruised, edges toned, a few spots to leading edge. Scatter of fox spots to prelims, offsetting to half-title, else, clean and tight. A very good copy of the second novel in Richardson's important trilogy of modern Australia. Henry Handel Richardson (1870-1946) was the pen name of the Australian author, Ethel Richardson, who, by 1925, had settled in London with her Scottish husband, John George Robertson. Olga Roncoroni, who was Richardson's companion until her death at 76, had joined the household in 1921. The Way Home was preceded by Australia Felix (1917) and followed by Ultima Thule (1929).
