About This Item

London: Murray, 1929. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. The Weary Road: Recollections of a Subaltern of Infantry (John Murray 1929). First UK Edition. Publisher’s original green cloth with pager titling label to spine and front board. Foxing to the page block edges and the early/late pages of the book otherwise VG indeed. In the VERY RARE D/W priced 6/- net to the spine (as called for). The D/W is complete with a couple of short, closed edge tears and minor soiling to the back panel. Widely acclaimed memoir, based on a series of articles written by the author in 1928. Describes service with 1st Dorsets on Western front, especially Somme from end of 1915 to May 1917. Ended the war in Italy, detached from his battalion. First editions (in D/W) of this evocative memoir are uncommon.
