London, W. Kent & Co. (late D. Bogue), 86 Fleet Street, 1859.. Edition unknown, 1859, first published in this form by David Bogue in 1853 but the earliest English edition was published in a smaller format with different illustrations by John Souter in 1819 (see Gumuchian No. 5818). 8vo, approximately 165 x 110 mm, 6½ x 4½ inches, hand coloured frontispiece, uncoloured engraved vignette on title page and 10 HAND COLOURED plates, all featuring Lottie the doll and her 2 little owners, pages: x, (2), 13-93, bound in the original publisher's dark green zigzag blind decorated cloth, gilt title to upper cover, spine plain, front and rear pastedowns with publisher's adverts. "The story of a Doll which was brought up with the greatest care, and was taught to behave in every way like an amiable child." (publisher's advert). Tiny bump to corners of covers, child's printed name on very small strip of paper pasted to reverse of frontispiece, no show-through, some light thumbing and small pale stains to fore-edge and lower margin on many pages, 5 mm (¼") closed tear to outer margin of frontispiece, an occasional tiny brown spot, 4 tiny pale brown spots on page 89 also showing almost imperceptibly on facing plate (see image). A very good copy of an uncommon doll book. An English translation of Delafaye-Brehier's La Poupée bien elevée. Also attributed to Mme Mallès de Beaulieu. Gumuchian 4609 (French edition).
