About This Item

Paperback / softback. New. In 1982, having sold his jazz bar to devote himself to writing, the author began running to keep fit. A year later, he'd completed a solo course from Athens to Marathon, and now, after dozens of such races, he reflects upon the influence the sport has had on his life and on his writing. This title presents his portrait.

Synopsis

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running (走ることについて語るときに僕の語ること) is a memoir by Haruki Murakami in which he writes about his interest and participation in long-distance running. Murakami started running in the early 1980s and since then has competed in over twenty marathons and even an ultramarathon. The book's title was inspired by Raymond Carver's collection of short stories entitled What We Talk About When We Talk About Love.
