About This Item
First hardcover edition, with dust jacket, published by Little, Brown, 1956. One of the posthumously published novel from Loring. Patricia Langston is visiting the family estate on the Maine seacoast. Will Bill Blair her adoring childhood sweetheart help her and her father, Judge Langston, get through a complicated scandal ? Loring's posthumous works were first published by Little, Brown, and later reprinted by Grosset & Dunlap, so this is a true first from Little, Brown. Dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped, original price of $3.50 is printed on the top corner of the front flap. Jacket has edge wear at the tips of the corners and at the head and heel of the spine, and there's a small closed tear of about 1/2" near the heel of the spine that has been repaired with clear tape on the obverse of the jacket. Small smudge mark on the front of the jacket, just below the "W" in "What". Jacket has been protected with a clear, removable cover. 262 pages, gray-green cloth covered boards with the author name and title imprinted on the spine and on the front board within a stylized rectangle in dark green. Boards are flat, show very little wear, and the corners are not bumped or creased. There is a former owner's name written in blue pen ink on the inside front cover, about 1" long. Also the word "Good PB" written in blue ink on the first flyleaf, also about 1" across. No further writing besides that, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block are clean. Not a library discard. Cover art by Manning de V. Lee, who did several covers of Loring titles. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
