About This Item

New York: John Ireland, 1197 Broadway; [Manhattan Press Print], 1892. Oblong Octavo (15 x 22.5 cm.) 78 numbered leaves, printed rectos only; [4] blank pages for recipes. No advertising section, which is appears in some copies of this printing. Later printing, originally issued 1889. A promotional cookbook, though one of significantly more subtlety than is usually found; there is a single mention of the Agate Chafing Dish in the front matter. Recipes, for Bubble & Squeak, Minced Collops au Naturel, Curried Fish, Capilotade of Turkey, Frogs, and so on, are offered in narrative form, and are each provided a single page. A bit shaken, but still sound. Some light soiling to publisher's illustrated, paper-covered boards, over one quarter green cloth. Some light soiling, and wear to edges of boards. With the ownership signature, of "John C. Muir Jr, 34 Skillhouse Ave., New Haven" to front free endpaper, and to a rear blank, a pencil sketch of a standing man looking at a second man who appears to be standing at a bar. [Brown 2493 (for the 2nd edition of 1890); Cagle 687 (for the 1889 first edition)].
