First American hardcover edition, with dust jacket, published by Viking, 1993. The story of a love affair between Brian Botsford, a young upper-class writer, and Edward Phelan, an employee of the London Underground, set during the late 1930's in London. The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped. Jacket has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Gray boards, with black cloth covered spine, with the author name and title imprinted on the spine in copper. Boards are flat, and the corners are not bumped or creased, no edge wear to the boards. Sewn binding is tight and square. There are a few minor bump marks to the top edge of the text block from shelf wear. Not a remainder, not a library discard. The attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.

When the strains of class difference, sexual taboo, and Brian's ambivalence impel Edward to volunteer to fight against Franco in Spain, Brian pursues him across Europe and into the violent chaos of war.
