Red decorative cloth with titles stamped in gilt on front boards and spine. Top edges gilt. xi, 160 pp. + [4] page list of Whittiers works. Two-page color map after list of illustrations of the Merrimac River valley from Haverhill to Newburyport, Massachusetts, which denotes various places where poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier lived and worked. Many other photos and illustrations. Pickard was a friend and biographer of Whittiers and writes in his preface that this volume is designed to meet a call from tourists who are visiting the Whittier shrines at Haverhill and Amesbury in numbers that are increasing year by year. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
