Essays by the comparative literature scholar include discussions of the emergence of modernist poetry, Malraux, Thomas Mann, Robert Penn Warren, John Peale Bishop, R.P. Blackmur, Lionel Trilling. 8vo, gray cloth with white and black lettering on spine, dark gray end papers, faded bluish topstain, foxing to fore-edge, in unclipped, worn and soiled DJ with tears and chips to crown and heel. Inscribed by the author on the half-title to his friends Profs. Ann and Warner Berthoff, their marginalia in pencil on approximately 80 pages. Bonus is a laid-in clipping of a 1963 letter by Frank to the editor of the TLS disputing a piece of analysis in an article on James Baldwin.
