About This Item

Chicago Philadelphia Toronto: The John C. Winston Company, 1924. Illustrated Reprint of 1903 Edition. Pictorial cloth. Near Fine/Very Good +. Mead Schaeffer. 8vo, maroon cloth with gold lettering on spine and colored plate laid onto front cover; archival polyester-cover added to the beautiful dust jacket art by Mead Schaeffer, who has illustrated the book with a full-cover frontispiece, several glossy color plates, and the dramatic endpapers; 319 pages + [1] Ad. The authirm Louis Tracy (1863 - 1928), was a British journalist, and prolific writer of science fiction, adventure, crime and some supernatural fiction. Two of his best-known characters were detectives who formed the Scotland Yard team of Superintendent Winter and Inspector Furneaux.

The Wings of the Morning is Tracy's dramatic tale of shipwreck, adventure, and romance set in the South China Sea. It is filled with action and danger when a typhoon causes shipwreck. The only survivors--a young sailor and the woman he rescued--manage to survive on a desert island and fall in love.

The excitinbg tale was also made into a 1919 American silent drama and romantic film directed by J. Gordon Edwards.

Mead Schaeffer (1898 - 1980) was an American illustrator active from the early to middle twentieth century. His style has been called "imagist," and it has strong affinities to the dynamic and colorful realism of N.C. Wyeth. Schaeffer became very well known and appreciated for the 46 covers he produced for the Saturday Evening Post and his portaits of military personnel during World War II.

SUPERIOR COPY with exciting, dramatic colorful illustrations.
