London: Phillips and Hunt. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1836-1838. Hardcover. steel-engraved plates; 11 x 7"; WINKLES'S ARCHITECTURAL AND PICTURESQUE ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE CATHEDRAL CHURCHES OF ENGLAND AND WALES [vols 1 & 2 of 3]. With frontis plates date 1835 and 1836. Bound in 3/4 calf leather over marbled boards with grey eps. The drawings made from sketches taken expressly for this work, by Robert Garland, descriptions by Thomas Moule. Xx,144; vii,140; xvi. Lavishly illustrated tours of English, Welsh, and French cathedrals, each represented with several views and a ground plan. There was a third volume published 4 years later in 1842. 6-panel spines decorated in gilt red and black morocco spine labels. Binding solid, moderately rubbed. While the two frontis' are heavily foxed, the balance of the contents has but slight and mainly marginal foxing. Bound in silk marker ribbons. Provenance- three generations of William's beging with an armorial book plate of Montague Williams and followed by two smaller name plates. Vol II 60 full page plates. Vol I 68 full page plates. .
