About This Item

Winona: p.p., 1897. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 1st printing. Brilliant gilt-stamped & gilt-pictorial dark green cloth. 694pp. Frontispiece: author. 2 maps (section of Franquelin's map of the Miss. & Chippewa Rivers; section of Buffalo Co. 2pp of collected portraits of officers & executive committee of the Winona County Old Settlers' Association. General Index has 10pp of names. fos of Walter Hoge on ffep & his simple library sticker on front paste down indicating that he bought this book in 1905 for 50 cents. There is some interesting information on this man on the internet, assuming it is the Hoge of Idaho. The beautiful mountain on the front cover looks all the world like Mt. Rainer, but index says it is "Wa-pa-ha-sha, or Cap of Papasha, now Sugar Loaf", which is a rocky pinnacle overlooking Winona. On the front cover is a 1/4" spot; barest trace of wear to cover corners. Vg+ condition. Very scarce.
