About This Item

Unamed: Sporting Handbooks Ltd, 1951-86. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 6.5" by 4.5". Unamed. A ten volume set of 'Wisden Cricketers' Almanack' from the fifties throughout until the mid-eighties. A lovely example of this work which is widely considered one of the best sporting reference works. Ten volumes of the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, each in the publisher's original binding. Eight of the volumes are paperbacks, with two volumes in a hardback cloth binding, held in the original dustwrappers. This set includes: 1951 (88th Edition), 1953 (90th Edition), 1959 (96th Edition), 1961 (98th Edition) , 1964 (101st Edition), 1970 (107th Edition), 1980 (117th Edition), 1982 (119th Edition), 1983 (120th Edition, Hardback held in Dustwrapper) and 1986 (123rd Edition, Hardback held in Dustwrapper) The Wisden Cricketers' Almanack is colloquially known as the Bible of Cricket, and is an extensive reference work on the sport. It was founded in 1864 by the cricketer John Wisden. Wisden was an important cricketer who aside from his notable cricketing achievements, is best remember for the founding of this important cricketing publication. In this particular set the editors featured include: Norman Preston, the English cricket journalist, John Woodcock the noted cricket writer and journalist, and Hubert Preston, a journalist. In the original cloth bindings, with two volume in their original hardback cloth binding, held in the original unclipped dustwrappers. Externally each of the volumes are lightly bumped and rubbed to the extremities. Each of the paperback volumes are lightly creased to the spines. The odd handling marks to the boards and spine. The two dustwrapper are generally smart with lightly patches of rubbing the head and tail of the spine and also to the extremities, heavier to the 1983 dustwrapper. The odd spot to the fore edge of each volume. Internally firmly bound pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot. Very Good Indeed
