London: Editions Poetry,, 1947. First UK edition, first impression, of Miller's collection of stories and essays, originally published in the US in 1941. This copy is from the library of John K. Martin, founder of the Black Sparrow Press and publisher of Charles Bukowski and many other major authors, including Paul and Jane Bowles, Wyndham Lewis, Joyce Carol Oates, Charles Olson, John B. Sanford, and Gertrude Stein, with his label to the rear pastedown. Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to spine in gilt. With dust jacket. Very slight lean to spine, binding firm and internally clean; a near-fine copy in the jacket, very minor creasing to head of spine, covers clean and bright.
