Her first book, handsomely bound First edition, first printing, of the author's landmark debut novel, the first chapter of which was expanded from her masters thesis. Wise Blood "sets the tone for the religiously displaced types that haunt her fiction" (ANB) and "combines the keen ear for common speech, the caustic religious imagination, and the flair for the absurd that were to characterize O'Connor's subsequent work" (Ency. Brit.) A master of the Southern Gothic short story, O'Connor received the National Book Award for her posthumous Complete Stories (1971). Octavo. Finely bound by the Chelsea Bindery in yellow morocco, smooth spine lettered in black, twin black fillet on turn-ins, black endpapers, edges gilt. A fine copy.
