My name is Moe. Several of my animal friends found my life, and their part in it, of interest and urged that I write this autobiography. Because five different animals, all speaking a distinct different language are involved, I believe this prefatory explanation is needed. First, I must admit that I cannot and do not know the languages of all animals but only of those with whom I shared a resort and with whom I had the opportunity to establish a close friendship. These are the American bison (commonly known to man as buffalo), the cow, the dog, the horse and the man. Each of these can understand the language of the others but can speak only their own. (The understanding of the man is extremely limited.)
I am writing this on clay pads in the playground of my resort. It will be written in my highly advanced and simple language, buffascrit. Translation will be easy for most but perhaps difficult for the man who uses a complicated primitive, and non-melodious language. I have hope that with effort the man can accomplish a reasonable translation (although without the poetic flow of buffascrit). Some of the knowledge I will relate is based on oral tradition of buffalo passed down by related family members since creation by God. Anything based only on gossip or rumor will be so identified.
