London: Oxford University Press. Good with no dust jacket. 1934. First Edition. Hardcover. Vii, 445 pp. Index. Frontis plate of Syriac manuscript. Small octavo. Original light blue publisher's cloth with gilt to spine. Spine covering is sunned, some small chips at head of spine, general minor wear to covers. Interior has small neat owner name, paper lightly toned, one mark in the margin, otherwise clean and nice. Enanisho was a monk, philosopher, lexicographer and translator of the Church of the East who flourished in the 7th century. He wrote a philosophical treatise on "definitions and divisions" and a glossary of difficult words to aid in reading the Church Fathers. He wrote Book of Rules for Homographs about Syriac homographs, words having the same spelling (ie. , consonants) but different pronunciation (ie. , vowels) and meaning. He entered the monastery of Mar Abraham on Mount Izla and later made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and the monasteries of Scetis in Egypt, becoming well acquainted with Greek literature and Egyptian monasticism. Upon his return he joined the monastery of Beth Abhe; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 445 pages .
