Seldes was a fearless investigative reporter in his day, taking on Mussolini and fascism, corporate exploitation in Mexico, and the global arms industry, in the 1920s and 1930s. He covered the Spanish Civil War and published a political newsletter, In Fact, in the 1940s; one of the first articles concerned the link between cigarettes and cancer. He was accused of being a communist during the McCarthy hearings in the 1950s and subsequently blacklisted. Seldes lived to be 104; he appears in the film 'Reds' as a commentator. Previous owner's name stamped on tail edges, a little wear to edges. Dustjacket has tears and chipping.
