New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1930. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Poor. Very Good in a Poor jacket, unclipped ($2.50), large chips to the front panel and missing half of the spine, oversized on the book by about a quarter-inch. Tan cloth, toned at the spine and edges, some rubbing and fraying to the head and foot of the spine. Square and firmly bound with a dark top stain, former owner's signature on the front endpaper, clean otherwise. Hughes's semi-autobiographical debut novel about a Black family living in Kansas in the early 20th century. Scarce in any kind of jacket.
