About This Item

Frankfort.: Kentucky Historical Society Book. Very Good. Soft cover. pp267-280. Removed from THE REGISTER OF THE KENTUCKY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, Vol. 80, No. 3, Summer, 1982. G. In report covers. May include a copied first or last page. Ebenezer Brooks (c1750-1799) played a significant, though brief, role in early Kentucky history, particularly in the debate over Kentucky statehood, but he has largely been a forgotten figure in the history of the state. From the article: "Thus the Reverend Dr. Ebenezer Brooks passed from the scene at about age forty-nine. He had been a preacher, a doctor, an author, a teacher, a politician, and a center of controversy - yet he had never been fully accomplished in any single role. David Campbell summarized well when he wrote that Brooks `was an unsuccessful great man - because he could never obtain a proper theatre to act upon.' Had he done so, Brooks would have enjoyed a very conspicuous station in society.'".
