About This Item
Boston: Lee and Shepard, 1893. First Edition. . Hardcover. Good Plus to Very Good/No Jacket. Shattuck was a leader in the women's rights movement in New England in the late 19th century as well as a journalist and a writer of children's books and plays. There is a touch of irony, then, in that the work for which she is best known today is a "how-to" manual. Since its first publication in 1891, "The Women's Manual of Parliatmentary Law" has gone through 20 editions, the most recent in 2012. First Edition, probably Third Printing. About 4 1/2 x 6 inches, 254 pages including six pages of publisher's ads at the back, bound in red cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped lettering on spine and front cover. Boards show some wear along edges and at corners as well as a narrow strip of faded color on spine and a dime-sized discolored area on back cover. Paste downs and text edges lightly soiled, o/w boards and text are clean, complete and unmarked; binding tight and square. A small volume that has served and survived 120 years in collectable condition.
