About This Item
Fine bright copy. A "lost race" novel. The story begins on a large sheep ranch a hundred miles west of Santa Fe, New Mexico in the area where Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado meet (Four corners). Includes an Indian attack, and, on one occasion, being saved by a herd of buffalo. The hero and two companions make their way by drifting with the current to a Central American lost city. "A geographically ignorant, weak imitation of H.Rider Haggard, stilted language and all, to which have been added dime-novel elements". Bleiler, Science Fiction, p.251. An early work by this British author who later found his metier as a writer of detective fiction. Woodrow Wilson's approval increased his following. Bleiler, Checklist, p.74. Lock, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p.85.
