About This Item
Chicago: Geo M. Hill, 1900. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Square large octavo, 259pp., illustrated with 24 plates, including the title page (complete as issued). Second state, conforming to all issue points on p. 27 in Hanff's bibliography (details upon request). A very good copy in the publisher's decorative cloth. Recased and strengthened in its original binding, retaining the original endpapers. Mild, even soiling to cloth, front board with a vertical crease throughout, some very light archival tissue repairs to some minor tears in some plates, most notably on the last leaf. One of the most innovative illustrated children's books of all-time, with an extremely dynamic design that suits the power of the story, which was adapted into one of the great films of the 20th century. Most copies available have endured a certain amount of abuse, and varying degrees of restoration. In this case, the work was done by one of the world's leading professionals, using entirely archival-grade material, and with as little invasiveness as possible. A sound, sturdy, and pleasing copy of this all-time masterwork of children's literature.
Synopsis
When Nancy searches through the knapsack of an amnesia victim, she finds an unusual ring. Before long, she is caught up in a second assignment from a beautiful harpist. Nancy's discoveries reveal an important connection between the hospital patient, the harpist, and enemies from abroad.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
