The first edition of this work, Inscribe by the author to the half-title. In the original unclipped dustwrapper. With the scarce wraparound. 'The Wooden Shepherdess' is the sequel to 'The Fox in the Attic', and the second novel in Hughes' intended trilogy titled 'The Human Predicament'. In this novel, the protagonist, Augustie, is in prohibition era America, seeing the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany. Written by Richard Hughes, who is best known for his novel 'A High Wind in Jamaica'. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper, with a wraparound. Externally, smart. Dustwrapper with a small tape repair to the reverse to the head of the spine. Very light edgewear and marks to the wraps. Wraparound with a small amount of edgewear and a small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Fine
