Moving story of the disastrous months following the Declaration of War by France against Prussia in July 1870 expressed through the trials of a poor family. The Author was present at Dinon for the month of August 1870 and was able to write from personal experience. Well illustrated with 13 Full-Page B&W Plates. Frontis illus. a young officer holding back a mob at swordpoint. A scarce title and in nice condition. Blue cloth cover with large Black illus of Paris streets and bright gilt Flames and Lettering on front. Bright gilt lettering and armorial bearing and other decoration on spine. All page edges gilt. Yellow endpapers. Slight wear at spine ends and tips of botom corners. ffep missing. No inscriptions.
