London: Henry G. Bohn, 1849. ~Original dark green cloth to boards. 20th-century rebacking in attractive polished dark brown calf. Raised bands, gilt decor, and two black gilt labels per spine. Small white splash mark to front board of vol. I. Most board corners slightly pushed in. Mild foxing and browning to page edges. Small 4tos (19.7 x 27cm). Hinges sound. Replacement endpapers uncracked at gutters. Cracking at gutter before first leaf of text in vol. III, and starting at gutter before final leaf of text in vols II & III. Scattered foxing throughout; considerable foxing to pp. 17-40 in vol. III only. Portrait frontis to vol. I by W. H. Worthington after F. X. Fabre, and to vol. III by Henry Moses after Luigi Azimonti. Offset browning to title page of vol. I. 40pp. 'Biographical Memoir' to start of vol. I and 57pp. supplement to the Memoir and 'Thoughts on the Arts' by Canova, collected by his friend the Abate Missirini, to vol. III. Otherwise unpaginated. Profusely illustrated with outline engravings of Canova's works by Henry Moses (1781/2-1870), an 'eminent artist distinguished for the neatness and purity of outline' (Dodd, in ODNB). Descriptions of artworks translated from the 1809 Opere di scultura e di plastica di Antonio Canova by Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi (1760-1836), salonnière and friend of Canova.
