About This Item
Works of George Eliot, Harper's Library Edition, 1876. Three volumes from what was originally a larger set. All three to be sold together. Offered here are Volume I, Adam Bede and Volumes VI and VII, the two volumes of Middlemarch. Each book has a library stamp on the front pastedown: Library, Junior College of Albany, withdrawn. Front flyleaf of each book is inscribed S. H. Winkley, 1886. On the left flyleaf opposite the name is a reference abbreviation: B, II, g-2, for Adam Bede and B, II, g-6 and B, II, g-7 for Middlemarch. All three volumes have bumped corners and some scuffing of the cloth, with worn tops and bottoms of spines. There are hinge breaks on the Middlemarch volumes. The Middlemarch volumes also have a few markings (underlining and check marks) and the last page of text of Volume II has a signature, presumably of a prior owner, and two dates, possibly the dates the books were read. The text blocks are tight. Please see photos as they are part of the description.
