About This Item
Philadelphia: Joseph Crukshank, 1775. Second Edition. . Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavo. 432 pages. Hardcover bound in original full brown leather with a red leather label on the spine. Ribbed spine. Front hinge is cracked and holding by one cord at the bottom band. The binding is worn and bumped. The text block is sound. Early owner's signature on the front flyleaf is of Sam'l Titus or Tiles or Jiles. Another similar signature in pencil on the rear flyleaf is dated 1846. The ink signature on the front flyleaf looks much closer to the original publication of the book. The text is toned and shows foxing and has some possible damp spots. Two main parts in one volume with a separate title page for his Journal at the front and a separate title page for the Second Part after page 250 (the pagination runs continuously through both parts of the book). The title for the second part states, "The Second Part. Containing his Last Epistle and his Other Writings." The first work in this second part is, "Some Considerations on the Keeping of Negroes recommended to the Professors of Christianity of Every Denomination. First Printed in the Year 1754." Colonial American imprint. A rare work.
