London: J. M Dent & Sons, 1923. Red Cloth. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Type: Z A twenty - two volume set by Joseph Conrad, attractively bound uniformly in the original publisher's red cloth with gilt embosed vignette to the front board and lettering to the spines. A charming set. The titles includeThe Inheritors : An Extravagant Story, The Secret Agent, Under Western Eyes, Tales of Hearsay and Last Essays, Youth : a Narrative & two other stories, Chance : a tale in two Parts, Nostromo : A Tale of the Seaboard, The Rover, The Rescue : A Romance of the Shallows, Lord Jim, The Nigger of the Narcissus & Typhoon, The Mirror of the Sea & A Personal Record, The Shdow Lins & Within the Tides, Notes of Life & Letters, The Arrow of Gold, Romance - A Novel, Victory An Island Tale, Suspense, Almayer's Folly and Tales of Unrest, Twixt Land & Sea Tales, a Set of Six, and An Outcast of the Islands. The spines of the books are uniformly and lightly faded, though the gilt embossing remains bright. The head and tail of the spines are lightly turned in and several volumes have light bumps to the head of the spine and the tail of the spine of The Secret Agent has been bumped. There is a light stain to the tail of the rear boards of all volumes, and also to the tail of the front board of several volumes. Light bump to one corner of the front board of The Arrow of Gold. Slight bump to the tail of the front board of the Inheritors and to one corner of The Rescue and The Rover. The front and rear board of Romance has some bubbling to the cloth near the spine. Light toning to the end papers and light foxing to the periphery of the end papers of several volumes. A few light foxspots to several fore edges. There are a few tears to the edges of a few pages of the volume Notes on Life & Letters where previously unopened pages have been opened. No inscriptions. The pages are fresh and clean. An attractive, very good set.
